Description

Sloppy Joe Dip is a ground beef mixture that is a thicker, cheesier version of a sloppy joe that is the perfect dip for toasted baguettes or bagel chips.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about ยฝ cup)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 ยฝ cups ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 ยฝ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • toasted baguettes or bagel chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Step: Preheat oven to broil and place the top oven rack about 6 inches from the broiler.
  2. Step: In a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat, add ground beef, onions, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; cook until beef is no longer pink and drain grease.
  3. Step: Stir in beef broth, ketchup, and mustard until all ingredients are incorporated.
  4. Step: Whisk together cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then pour into the beef mixture and stir until thickened.
  5. Step: Remove the pan from heat and stir in 1 cup of the cheese until melted.
  6. Step: Top with the remaining cheese.
  7. Step: Broil in the oven for 3-5 minutes until the cheese is hot and bubbly.
  8. Step: Serve warm with toasted baguettes or bagel chips.

Notes

Ground turkey can be used as a substitute for beef. Sharp cheddar or pepperjack are also excellent cheese options. To keep the dip warm, transfer it to a crockpot on the warm setting.
