Description

This Asian Style Ground Beef Spaghetti is a quick and easy weeknight dinner that combines classic comfort food with vibrant East Asian flavors. Savory ground beef and a sweet-salty sauce are elevated by a fragrant, homemade smoked chili garlic oil.


Ingredients

  • 200g (7oz) spaghetti
  • 250g (9oz) halal ground beef
  • 150g (5oz) onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 5g (0.2oz) ginger, grated
  • 30ml (2 fl oz) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 15ml (1 fl oz) halal fish sauce
  • 15ml (1 fl oz) brown sugar
  • 15ml (1 fl oz) lime juice
  • 1.5 tsp chili flakes
  • 0.75 tsp smoked paprika
  • 45ml (3 fl oz) vegetable oil
  • 15ml (1 fl oz) sesame oil
  • 15g (0.5oz) sesame seeds, toasted
  • 30g (1oz) cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook Spaghetti: Boil spaghetti until al dente, reserving 120ml pasta water. Drain.
  2. Brown Beef: Brown 250g ground beef in 1 tbsp oil until cooked through.
  3. Sautรฉ Aromatics: Sautรฉ onion, garlic, and ginger with beef for 2 minutes.
  4. Build Sauce: Stir in soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, chili flakes, and paprika. Simmer for 5 minutes, adding pasta water if needed.
  5. Make Chili Oil: Infuse 2 tbsp oil, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, chili flakes, and paprika over low heat. Strain.
  6. Combine & Coat: Toss spaghetti with beef mixture and half the chili oil.
  7. Plate & Garnish: Serve with remaining chili oil, sesame seeds, and cilantro.

Notes

For a richer sauce, use bronze-die cut spaghetti. Adjust chili flakes to your spice preference. Reserve pasta water to help bind the sauce.
